The Story of the Stupa in Pemathang

  • On June 15 and 16, 2021, landslides and floods in Helambu covered the area of Pemathang which was considered a sacred land by Tibetan Buddhists. Khentrul Ngawang Lhundrup had constructed a stupa there. The landslide covered the stupa for all but the top.

Newspapers from 2021 show the devastation. This picture is from www.myrepublica. The landslide was said to consist of a thick mix of stones, mud and sand, and it was as sudden and devastating as the landslide of 2026 in Rasuwa.

Only shortly before, Khentrul Ngawang Rinpoche had completed a 20 feet tall stupa in Pemathang.

Here is a picture of its construction. The life tree (srog shing) can be seen sticking out:

After the landslide, Khentrul Rinpoche went back to bless the land again.
